The Maxwell House Hotel was at its height from the 1890’s until the early 20th century.
Its Christmas dinner featuring calf’s head, black bear, opossum and other bizarre delicacies became famous. The list of notable and famous guests include Thomas Edison, Henry Ford, Cornelius Vanderbilt, and no less than six presidents, including Theodore Roosevelt who coined the phrase ‘good to the last drop’ in reference to the cup of coffee he had at the hotel. hence, the Maxwell House coffee brand and slogan were born.
