This is an antique Navy Sailor’s enamelled steel cap box with it’s original metal hardware; clasp and hinged lid as well as it’s original owner’s name identified on the lid!

Sailor’s when issued two or three caps were supplied with a box to store them and keep them clean/dry. These boxes had hinged lids and were also lockable with a large brass hasp with room for a padlock so ideal to store valuables and personal possessions.
A brass plaque was riveted to the top lid where the sailor’s name was engraved or scratched in.
Amazing storied memorabilia and a gorgeous decorative box for home/studio spaces alike!

In excellent salvaged condition, as found; with dents and imperfect original paint patina
commensurate with age & previous use; Early 1900’s | Clean and dry, no odour
