Amazing hearthside or anywhere really - this piece is primarily decorative but functions to keep matches at the ready
A striking antique piece cast with two capped men on each side of a handsome buck
sporting a leafy scarf… hanging below are a hare and a pheasant separated by a horn & across the bottom is a double quilted pouch pocket to hold matchsticks or tuck a matchbook. Old English hunting decor!
There is also a tightly quilted area that may have been intended as a ‘matchstrike’ pad
Ideal to keep a stash of matches on hand for quick access | Victorian; mid to late 1800’s
11” H x 5.5” W x 1.75” D
In excellent antique condition, as found; beautifully crafted, hand made; quite solid & weighty, has open spots to use to hang
